- Title, marital status, gender, nationality, date of birth, number of children, etc. As such it is not mixed with other irrelevant information.

- The length of the statement is almost correct; four short sentences.
- More than two years of relevant work experience

- The candidate cleverly added the “Achievements” option to their resume to highlight some of their main achievements. This is a particularly good idea, as
- employers tend to scan a resume rather than read it heavily.

Example of a Bad CV + Comments
Kevin Clarkson
ADDRESS: 27 Summerfield Road, HS1 JU4, Kent, United Kingdom
MOB: 07983328492 E-MAIL: kevinbadman90@live.co.uk
DOB: 22/03/1990 GENDER: Male NATIONALITY: British
- It is unnecessary to have “CV” or “CV” as the title of the CV; it is quite clear what the document is. Instead, the title of a resume should be the candidate’s name in a large font (20 points), highlighted (bold) and in the middle of the page.
- It is highly recommended that you remove date of birth, gender, and nationality from the CV, as these are optional and may even harm your chances of being invited to an interview.
- The prefix “ADDRESS” is not required, and other prefixes such as “MOB” and “E-MAIL” should not be capitalized for presentation purposes and because it IS SHOOTED.
- The email “Kevinbadman90@live.co.uk” is unprofessional
- The beginning of the sentence should be like this; “I am a diligent Administrative Assistant …” (incorrect grammar)
- Personal expression contains a lot of clichés, and there is no power or power behind words because it does not give concrete examples of these skills used in the real world.
- The goal of a personal profile is to be brave and sell yourself as a suitable candidate for the job. The closing sentence “I believe I can help your company work better…” is vague, boring and weak. How can you help the business run better? What aspects of the business? In what way?

• Achieved a MMP
2006 – 2013 GCSES East Villa Secondary School
1999 – 2006 School Holy Street Primary School
- The candidate does not list the relevant modules or units completed during their studies. It is unrealistic to expect potential employers to be aware of all courses / qualifications and related modules.
- The candidate can use the field better by stating the relevant modules they have studied and their specific grades / results, rather than mentioning irrelevant information such as primary school details.
- Course name should not be capitalized
2014 – 2014 Sales Assistant (2 week work experience) NEXT
- Once again, the candidate is not using this portion of their resume to literally sell. In the employment section, it is highly recommended that someone talk about the roles, duties and responsibilities of their work.
- No months are specified in the dates, so it will be very difficult for a hiring manager to decide whether this candidate is starting a job as an Executive Assistant in January, December, or any month of 2016!
Excellent organizational skills
• Can work in a team and on my own initiative
• Playing violin
- The purpose of a CV’s skills section is for candidates to talk about some of the basic skills that will help them do their job properly. Although playing the violin is definitely a skill; How will the ability to play this musical instrument help someone become a better civil servant?
- The skills listed are very general and do not accompany any real-world examples
- The candidate does not mention any specific hobbies or interests that may be related to the job he applied for. Scary Violin is back and once again doesn’t add any added value to the CV. General rule of thumb: when in doubt, leave it out.
“Classess” misspelled
Mob: 0797 7282 7283
Address: 27 Summerfield Road, HS1 JU4, Kent, United Kingdom
- Looking at the referee’s surname and address; We can safely conclude that the referee is actually the mother of the candidate. Having family members as your references brings a “conflict of interest” (bias) to the situation and is therefore not well received by recruiters.
- The referee’s company or job position is not mentioned.

FINAL TIP: The key to writing a successful CV is to tailor your CV exactly to the job you’re applying for. Get inspired by the other CV examples listed above; use the same terminologies, specify the same skills required for the job, and remember to submit a cover letter with your application.
Good luck!
