Who Is Zayn Malik?

Zayn Malik had an early love for singing and performing, and at the age of 17, he appeared in the competition series The X Factor. He worked with four male competitors to create a group acting called One Direction, which has become one of the most popular boy bands in the history of music. After leaving One Direction in March 2015, Malik made a leap the following year with the release of his first solo album Mind of Mine.

Early Life

Malik was born on January 12, 1993, at Zain Javadd Malik in Bradford, in the West Yorkshire county of Northern England. English and Pakistani descent. His father Yasser Malik is English-Pakistani and his mother Patricia (known as Tricia) is English. They have an older sister Doniya and two younger sisters Waliyha and Safaa. The Malik family belongs to the Muslim faith.

Malik grew up in East Bowling, south of Bradford city center. He attended Lower Fields Primary School and Tong High School in Bradford. When he was young, he took performing arts lessons and took part in school productions.

‘The X Factor’

In 2010, Malik, 17, auditioned for the seventh season of the real-television competition X Factor in Manchester. The rhythm-and-blues vocalist sang “Let Me Love You” as the song of his choice and was accepted in the next round. Malik was eliminated in the final round of the race, but judges Nicole Scherzinger and Simon Cowell grouped him with rival rival Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson to create a new action for the rest of the show.

Performing as One Direction, this group became one of the most popular finalists in The X Factor season. Although they finished third in the contest, they immediately signed the Cowell’s Syco music label.

One Direction

When One Direction was released in the UK in September 2011, it peaked on the pop music charts with its first music singles “What Makes You Beautiful”. Their first album, Up All Night, was among the bestsellers in 2012 and in the United States. Malik toured extensively with the group’s One Direction, which met young female fans around the world.

In March 2015, Malik surprised the fans by leaving the group’s world tour. A spokesman for the group tweeted, “Zayn was signed with stress and is flying back to England to recover”. On March 25, Malik announced that he completely left One Direction. In a statement on Facebook, he wrote: “Five years later, I feel it is time for me to leave the group. If I disappoint anyone, I want to apologize to the fans, but to do the right thing in my heart.”

Shortly after leaving One Direction, Malik started his solo music career with the demo version “I Don’t Mind” leaked online by producer Naughty Boy. Soon after, official singles came out, including “Pillowtalk” and “It’s You”. Both of these tracks were featured in Mind of Mine, their debut album number 1 in both the UK and the USA in the spring of 2016. “I Don’t Want to Live Forever” from “I Don Fifty Shades Darker” soundtrack with Taylor Swift.

Since April 2018, Malik released a number of singles from her second-class solo album, including “Let Me”, “Entertainer” and “Sour Diesel”. The long-awaited album Icarus Falls finally appeared in December, and despite its predecessor’s commercial success, it received mostly positive reviews.

In 2019, Malik matched Zhavia Ward for the “All New World” version from the Aladdin soundtrack. He also collaborated with Shaed for the remix of “Trampoline” that year and joined DJs R3hab and Jungleboi on “Flames”.

Fashion

Malik’s departure from One Direction’s borders also gave him the opportunity to pursue his fashion interests. In early 2017, he worked with shoe designer Giuseppe Zanotti to launch a men’s shoe line. He also served as a creative director for a Versace collection that debuted that spring.

Personal Life

While at One Direction, Malik was considered the “bad boy” of the group because of his mischievous behavior, many tattoos, and dyed, pompadour-like hairstyle. After entering the agenda for the first time, all of the former X Factor competitors, Geneva Lane, appeared with Rebecca Ferguson and Perrie Edwards.

In August 2013, Malik got engaged to Perrie Edwards, the singer of the Little Mix group. The couple broke up two years later. Malik later started dating the Gigi Hadid model in late 2015. After a split in March 2018, the couple agreed on late 2019.

In April 2020, it was reported that Malik and Hadid were waiting for their first child together.
