How to write a security guard CV

This brief guide explains how to write a CV for a security guard or security officer position.

Contact information

Add your address, e-mail address and phone number to the contact section. You may also want to mention that you have a completely clean driver’s license if it is about duty.

You may notice that people add their social profile on some resumes. This is not necessary unless these add value to your application. For example:

  • If you have a lot of work experience, LinkedIn can be used to write a more comprehensive description of your current and past roles. Find out here how to write a great LinkedIn profile to complete your CV.
  • Twitter can be included if you are actively involved in the security industry – perhaps sharing and commenting on relevant industry developments.

Personal profile

Your personal profile (or personal statement) states exactly how you fit into a particular job in which you are interested. Read the job description carefully and try to determine how you meet the requirements.

You will find that on many CV templates, the personal profile is only 3 or 4 lines. However, recruiters who want to fill security positions tend to be more interested in the skills and experience you have acquired than your formal education. For this type of role

, it is worth using a little more space to emphasize that you meet the requirements rather than the recruiter to research this information in later chapters.

For many security roles, an SIA license will be valuable. If you own yours, mention it and indicate if this is a pre-license.

Work history

Provide your work history in reverse chronological order, detailing the responsibilities you had in previous roles. You can also add role-specific achievements to this section.

Try to focus on the skills and experience the employer demands in the job posting. If the job posting is a bit straightforward in detail, reviewing a job description may help. This gives you a good idea of the skills and experience that employers in the security industry often value most.

  • Security Officer Job Profile – National Career Service

For each role in the past, be sure to specify the environment you worked in (retail, warehouse, workplace, etc.) and the type of activities you performed (manned protection, cash and valuables in transit, close guard, gate control, CCTV monitoring, etc.). ).Security Guard Resume - 5+ Free Sample, Example, Format | Free & Premium Templates

Education

Education is rarely a primary requirement in this industry – but if you have acquired your SIA license, include your course here.

Additionally, employers will want to see that you have good communication skills, so mention the good grades you got for English certificates here.

If you have received formal training on aspects of your business in your current or past roles, you can include it here. For example, you may have completed health and safety courses or a law enforcement mandate for a security guard.

Interests

Include interests if they add value to your resume. Safety roles tend to be highly active, so talking about sports and physical activity shows that you like staying fit and healthy. Security roles also typically require good communication, so all activities here that further support your skills are worth including.

References

In the security industry, it is very important that your past work history is verifiable. You don’t need to include reference names and addresses on your CV, as prospective employers (usually) will ask for details covering your positions over the past 5 years.
