Banking The number of users who have been attacked by Trojan horses has exceeded 400 thousand How to prevent this?

Kaspersky researchers found that in the first half of 2019, 430,000 users were exposed to malicious software for online money services with the purpose of stealing money and crypto money. This number is 7% higher than the same period of the previous year. One third (30.9%) of those affected by malware were corporate users. The proportion of targeted corporate users has doubled compared to the first half of 2018 (15.3%).

Banking Financial malware, also called Trojans, is used to steal money and financial data. Threat groups also use these software to access the computers and assets of users and financial institutions. Since money is the major motivation for cyber criminals and fraudsters, these threats are always an important part of the entire threat area. Kaspersky’s data on new instances of these threats reveals that malicious software for stealing money is highly active and dangerous, especially for corporate environments. Since corporate networks are typically connected devices, the entire organization can be threatened when a device is compromised.

The most common attack vectors of these malware are spam emails and phishing web pages. Phishing web pages look like real and legal pages, but they are actually prepared by threat groups. These pages are used to capture identity and debit card information or other sensitive information. Kaspersky researchers found that in the first half of 2019, more than 339,000 attacks took place with phishing pages that mimic the home pages of major banks.

The researchers also created a list of the most popular banking Trojan families targeting corporate users. 40% of the financial threats to corporate users came from the Trojan horse of RTM banking. In 2018, this Trojan horse was among the most dangerous banking malware. RTM was followed by Emotet banking Trojan horse with a rate of 15%. This threat can do enormous damage, especially after entering the corporate network. Using vulnerabilities in un-updated devices, the software can spread other threats to the victim’s device. The third most common malware is Trickster banking Trojan with 12%.

It was determined that the situation is different for individual users. The most popular of malware targeted at such users was Zbot by 26%. In addition to capturing credentials, this software can also provide remote control of threat groups. Zbot was followed by RTM and Emonet, respectively. Interestingly, RTM, which targets almost all institutions in 2018, also reached a significant ratio among standard individual users in the first half of 2019.

Pers We believe that the number of attacked users will increase in the second half of 2019, Kas said Kaspersky Security Researcher Oleg Kupreev. Generally, there is an increase in harmful activity immediately after the holiday season, when people use their devices less than usual, and thus are less likely to be victims of threats. We urge everyone who deals with banking and finance via the Internet to be very careful. ”
